Gianni, 60, nature et gastronomy addict

I was born, raised, and have worked in Liège. A family man, I have simple taste, but I live for quality. I like sports and nature better than museums, I am not against a concert from time to time. Now than my children have left the nest, we’re enjoying life just a bit more my wife and I.

NOT TO MISS

The “Coteaux de la Citadelle”

I love nature, so when in the city, I can find it in the Coteaux de la Citadelle. The views are breathtaking and you really feel as if you were in the countryside, between the orchards, the sheep, and the woods.

TWO DAYS IN LIÈGE

DAY 1

MORNING

For a day to start the right way, I need good coffee. even better if it’s on a terrace to watch the city wake. For that, I like the “Place des Carmes” where workers and students from the nearest University cross paths. The terrace of “Le Bouquin” is perfect for that.

AFTERNOON

If it is the season, I’ll take the River Shuttle. It is a nice mean of transport which allows to discover the city differently than with the bus or car. Bonus : there’s a pretty bridge for you to sunbath even.

NOON

In the Cathédrale quarter, the commercial choice is great. My daughter made me discover Messieurs, specialists in the “croque” (grilled cheese, etc.) snacks. At first, I thought that they wouldn’t get my money for a grilled piece of bread, but I have to admit that it is way better than my usual homemade lunch.

EVENING

I like meat. Quality meat. I have been a few times to the “Bar à Boeuf”, a known restaurant which meets my needs. But even my wife who doesn’t like steak that much loves the place. The menu is quite fine and the wine card always full of surprises.

DAY 2

MORNING

En espérant que c’est dimanche, on va à la Batte. C’est un très beau et très ancien marché où on trouve de tout, et où on entend toutes les langues ! C’est une vraie attraction touristique. Comme c’est en bord de Meuse, c’est plutôt agréable.

AFTERNOON

If it isn’t already done, you have to try a belgian waffle ! It is even better in Liège ! And to be sure to get a real waffle which has not been frozen before, try to check on the windows if there’s the Authentical Waffle From Liège label sticker on it.

NOON

In the quarter of “la Batte”, there is the Saint-Grégory. The brewery-pub doesn’t look like it, but they serve one of the best “boulet frites” in the city. And the barrel beer ain’t so bad either.

EVENING

The “Duc D’Anjou” is also a “Liégeois” classic. The decor and welcoming atmosphere are pretty classical, but their success has been unchanged for decades. The house’ specialty is mussels.
